Hidden Costs Breakdown

1

Server Infrastructure and Storage Costs

medium implementation

Eaglesoft requires significant server space and infrastructure compared to cloud-based alternatives. Users report that the software 'took a lotta server space' and that 'IT costs do go up when using Eaglesoft.' The database must be stopped for backups, requiring careful planning and potentially additional backup infrastructure.

2

Technical Support Fees

medium support

Support costs are separate from the base license and can be expensive. Patterson support has been criticized for long hold times and not delivering the best support quality. Users note that they 'only had to spend more for support services when needed,' indicating support is pay-per-incident or requires separate contracts.

Support can be expensive.

3

eRx Integration Costs

medium integration

Electronic prescribing (eRx) requires third-party integration. iCoreConnect, which integrates with Eaglesoft, costs $648 per year and includes Lexicomp drug reference. This is a recurring annual cost on top of the base Eaglesoft license.

4

Domain and Multi-Workstation Setup Complexity

medium implementation

For practices using Windows Domain networks, each PC requires multiple setup configurations depending on how many users will access that workstation. This adds significant implementation time and IT consulting costs during initial deployment.

trustradius

If you are on a Domain, then each PC needs to be set up multiple times, depending on how many users will be using that PC. This can add to the setup

5

Software Compatibility and Reinstallation Costs

high implementation

Eaglesoft has significant compatibility issues with Windows 10, Microsoft Office versions beyond 2013, and Adobe Reader DC. Users report needing to wipe and reinstall the entire OS to resolve issues, and downgrade Office and Adobe to older unsupported versions. This creates ongoing IT maintenance costs and security risks from running outdated software.

reddit

Right now my only issue with dental is Eaglesoft. Fuck Eaglesoft (dental practice management software). Ever since windows 10 it is a piece of hot garbage. Microsoft office won't work with the software? A reinstall of office and Eaglesoft didn't fix it? Better wipe the whole system and reinstall the OS, support doesn't know why. Oh we don't support office 2016 fully (at all really) and 365 not at all. Only 2013. If 2016 or higher has been installed you have to wipe the OS again. Adobe reader DC won't work? Better downgrade to 11 or 10, they don't know why. Software just crashes randomly for other reasons.

6

API Access and Integration Development

high integration

For practices wanting to integrate Eaglesoft with custom applications or third-party tools via API, similar Patterson products (Dentrix) charge $1,750-$50,000 registration fees plus $25-$50 per site per month. While Eaglesoft pricing wasn't confirmed, it's from the same company and likely follows similar pricing structures.

reddit

Couldn't find pricing on API access for Eaglesoft but did find pricing for Dentrix. Kind of restrictive for the newcomer programmer: Plus READ with Insurance Claims Plus WRITE Plus SCHEDULING $1,750 registration $5,000 registration $5,000 registration $25 per site/mo. $38 per site/mo. $50 per site/mo.

Example: True Cost for 25 Users

License (25 × $850 × 12) $255,000/yr
Server Infrastructure and Storage Costs +10-20% of license costs
Technical Support Fees +15-25% of license costs
eRx Integration Costs +$648/year
Domain and Multi-Workstation Setup Complexity +5-10% of implementation costs
Software Compatibility and Reinstallation Costs +$2,000-$5,000
API Access and Integration Development +$1,750-$50,000
Estimated Year 1 Total ~$433,500
That's roughly 1.7× the advertised license price. The median Eaglesoft contract is $18,000/yr across Vendr purchases.
